

Downtown Johnson City will host “Chili Fest by the Junior League of Johnson City” for First Friday, October 2nd. The Junior League is a nonprofit, charitable organization that works to improve our communities. All funds raised in this event go right back to needy organizations in our area.
Here’s a run-down of some of this First Friday’s happenings:
- Bowls of Chili go on sale at 6pm, Majestic Park area; cornbread and desserts are also available and Junior League Cookbooks will be sold
- A large children’s play area is also part of the fundraiser; including 5 games (with prizes) inflatables and crafts
Performing at Majestic Park Gazebo, 7-9pm is the band “23-19″ – a power pop band of college age guys from NC; they promise to bring an edgy performance sure to entertain audiences of all ages
Spark Plaza is throwing a 6 Month Anniversary Party with cake and ice cream from 7-9pm; they also offer a Free Workday 9am-5pm sparkplaza@gmail.com
- Keep your eyes peeled as Street Performers, the Vaudevillains, take to the streets in their debut performance of “Skid Row” from Little Shop of Horrors
Nelson Fine Art hosts an opening reception for Paul Bishop’s “The Permanence of Shadows” large-canvas photography and “Smoke and Mirrors: The Grand Illusion” with a model posing for makeup artists to create Living Art
- To compliment your chili, Simply Tea has over 25 varieties of fruit teas and lemonades to purchase – a portion of sales to benefit the Junior League
- Blue Moon Dinner Theatre performs Broadway’s record-breaking, comedy thriller, Deathtrap by Ira Levin; call 232-1350 or visit bluemoondinnertheatre.com
- Unique Treasures Coffee Emporium begins a month-long agenda of special Halloween events and pumpkin treats, stop by to get your schedule and purchase a Pumpkin Milkshake
Mountain Yoga will serve snacks, have massage therapists, and door prizes from 5-7pm, and a FREE QiGong class at 7pm
Beadworks will have their warm, in-shop party with FREE earring assembly and home-cooked food
- Everything Under One Woof hosts a Silent Auction with terrific items donated from all their vendors; 6-8pm to benefit Nibbles and Kibbles Pantry - needy pet food pantry
- Coffee & Tea Haven reopens 5-8pm for First Friday serving Spiced-and-Iced Organic Chai with Milk and their fresh-brewed, custom-roasted organic coffees
- Taste Budz is open from 11am-10pm with their famous home-cooking
- Stay True Tattoo Company hosts live bands on South Roan St. fromĀ 8-10pm
Celebrate First Friday in the latest Hand’s On! Museum exhibit – Maze-a-palooza; although the museum is closed the Maze-a-palooza exhibit will be openĀ 5:30-6:30pm
The Johnson City Area Arts Council will host an Artist Reception for well-known, Asheville artist, Cindy Walton from 6-8pm at their King’s Centre office
